"Family Heritage"

My family comes from a place called County Clare in Ireland. They came to America around 1840. They came through Ontario,Canada. My family name was Lyddy my grandfather was James Lyddy he was born 1867 in Stephenson, Michigan. His parents were John & Bridget(Noonan)Lyddy. John Lyddy was born in 1831 in County Clare,Ireland and Bridget(Noonan)Lyddy was born in 1833 in County Clare,Ireland.

My grandfather married Margaret(Leaveck)Lyddy on Oct 10th 1896 in Stephenson,Michigan. They had 10 children one of which was my father, Thomas Edward Lyddy. My grandfather died on Oct. 10th 1909 in Stephenson, Michigan. Leaving my grandmother to raise 10 children the oldest only being 13 years old and the youngest not even born yet. My father was only 4 years old when his Dad died. My father married Margaret(Redmond)Lyddy on Feb. 6th 1945 in Bay City, Michigan. They had 5 children which I'm the oldest of my siblings are as follows; James Lyddy, Patrick Lyddy, Colleen Lyddy, Ann(Lyddy)Hawkins. My father died on March 28th 1970 in Bay City, Michigan. My mother died on Sept. 9th 1981 in Bay City, Michigan they are buried in St. Patricks Cemetary. My brother Patrick Lyddy died on Dec. 12th 2000 he was cremated his ashes is in East Tawas, Michigan with his wife.

My mother's family came from County Cork and as did my Dad's family they came here through Canada. My mother's parents were James & Margaret(O'Neil)Redmond. My mother was the youngest of 5 children. She had 4 older brothers William, Myles, John and Francis Leo. She had 1 brother Francis Bernard who died when he was 10 months old. Her family was of strick Catholic belief.

Here are some of those Irish recipes I promised will try and get more in real soon enjoy.

Title: Irish Beef Pie Description: This a meat pie dish. Serve with toss green salad and choice of salad dressing. Ingredients: Double pie crust I-lb. of beef steak, 1 Tbs of flour,salt, freshly ground pepper, 1/4 C cooking oil,1 chopped onion, 1 C beef stock, 1 tsp of worcestershire sauce, 1 C sliced mushrooms, 3/4 C of Mrs Murphy's fresh stout,(beer), 1 egg beaten. Cut the beef into cubes. Directions: Coat meat lightly with flour and season with salt and pepper. Brown meat in oil. Take meat out after browing and set aside. Add mushrooms ,onions saute for 5 minutes. Return meat to pan and add worcestershire sauce and Mrs. Murphy's stout(beer) Simmer on very low heat for 1 hour. If mixture becomes to thick cover half way through. Put bottom crust in pie tin transfer mixture to pie tin when done. Cover with top crust brush with beaten egg. Cut slits in top of crust , Pre heat oven to 350 degrees F. Bake pie for about 45 minutes or till golden brown. Number Of Servings:Makes 2 servings Preparation Time:It takes about 2 hours to prepare.

Title: Thomas Lyddy's Lumber Jack Soup Description: A very tasty vegetable soup. Ingredients: Potatoes, Onions, Carrots, Cabbage, Rutabega Pinic Ham, Salt, Pepper. All vegetables has to be grated. Directions: In large soup kettle filled 3/4 with water add pinic ham and bring to full boil. When it comes to full boil add salt and pepper and all your grated vegetables. Then turn down to low and simmer all day. The longer you cook this soup the better it tastes. Number Of Servings:You can make as much as you need for your family size. Preparation Time:Simmer on low all day.
